Section 1: Piano Solo - Senior - Open (^ top)
Section Notes
1. No age limit. See Rule 7. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
2. Competitors entering Open (Senior/Trophy) classes may not enter Secton 2 (Intermediate) classes.
3. First place winners of Open classes (Trophy), with a mark of 85 or more and who successfully complete the Sight Reading and Viva Voce Audition (a few general music knowledge questions), are eligible to compete in the Piano Trophy Finals (Rose Bowl competition). See Section A.
4. A competitor in a concerto class may also act as accompanist for another competitor.
5. Refer to Rules 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 36, 41 and 46.
6. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check RCM and Conservatory Canada lists. See special regulations for 1-06 and 1-09
7. Entrants hoping to proceed to Provincial and National competitions must enter a Senior concerto or sonata class.
Class 1-01 - Concerto for Piano & Orchestra - Classical

Two mvts. only (one o be a slow mvt.) of any Concerto by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn or Mozart. Orchestra part to played on second piano.
Class 1-02 - Concerto for Piano & Orchestra - Romantic or Modern
Fee: $42.00
The first mvt. only of a Concerto from the Romantic period by composers such as Brahms, Chopin, Greig, Liszt (one section), MacDowell, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens, Schumann or Tchaikovsky, or tow movts of any concerto written after 1910. Theme and variations not acceptable. Orchestra part to be played on second piano.
Class 1-03 - Piano Solo - Concert Group

Entrants are given the opportunity of presenting a mini-recital. They will be judged on the discrimination shown in the choice of programme, as well as on interpretation and technique. Variety in content with regard to period, style, key, etc., will taken into consideration. A minimum of 3 pieces is required. Competitors in 1-03 may not enter Classes 10-01 to 10-05. Time limit 25 mins
Class 1-04 - Piano Solo - Haydn/Mozart Sonata
Fee: $42.00
Any sonata (complete) composed by either Haydn or Mozart. Competitors in this class may not enter Classes 4-02 to 4-04.
Class 1-05 - Piano Solo - Beethoven Sonata
Fee: $42.00
An entire sonata drawns from the following list: Op. 2 (No. 2 or 3), Op. 7, 22, 26, Op. 27 (no. 2), Op. 31, 53, 54, 57, 78, 81a, 90, 101, 106, 109, 110, 111. Competitors in this class may not enter Class 4-01.
Class 1-06 - Piano Solo - Romantic Composer
Fee: $42.00
A work, excluding sonatas, by a composer of the Romantic period, excluding Beethoven and Chopin. Time limit 20 mins.
Class 1-07 - Piano Solo - Romantic Composer - Sonata
Fee: $42.00
Any sonata (complete) by a composer of the Romantic period, excluding Beethoven. Time limit 30 mins. An accurate timing of the piece selected must be on the entry form.
Class 1-08 - Piano Solo - Chopin - Major Work
Fee: $42.00
One of the following : Ballade; Scherzo; Barcarolle; Fantasie in f minor, Op. 49; Polonaise Fantasy, Op. 61; Grande Polonaise in E flat, op. 22.
Class 1-09 - Piano Solo - Impressionist
Fee: $42.00
A work (or sections from a grouping) by any one composer allied with the Impressionist School (since 1887) such as Debussy, Delius, Ravel. Time limit 15 mins.
Class 1-10 - Piano Solo - Early 20th Century (1900 - 1950)
Fee: $42.00
Contemporary music written between the years of 1900 and 1950. Time limit 20 mins.
Class 1-11 - Piano Solo - Contemporary (1951 - present)
Fee: $42.00
Contemporary music written in modern idiom from 1951 to the present. Time limit 15 mins.
Class 1-12 - Piano Solo - Sonata
Fee: $42.00
Any Sonata (complete) written after 1900. Time limit 15 mins.
Class 1-13 - Piano Solo - Canadian Composers
Fee: $42.00
Own choice of a composition written since 1950 by a Canadian composer. Competitors must provide a copy for the adjudicator. If in manuscript form, it must be legible. Time limit 15 mins.
Class 1-14 - Piano Solo - - Russian Composer
Fee: $42.00
Any piece wirtten by a Russian Composer that is not a sonata or a concerto, written after 1900. Time limit 15 mins.
Section 2: Piano Solo - Intermediate - Age 18 & Under (^ top)
Section Notes
1. Competitors must be age 18 or under. See Rules 7 and 9. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
2. Competitors entering Intermediate classes may not enter Senior/Open classes (section 1).
3. First place winners of classes designated Intermediate (Silver Tray), with a mark of 85 or more and who successfully complete the Sight Reading and Viva Voce Audition (a few general music knowledge questions), are eligible to compete in the Intermediate Piano Finals (Silver Tray Competition). See Section A.
4. A competitor in a concerto class may also act as accompanist for another competitor.
5. Refer to Rules 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 36 and 40.
6. All music in this section must be at least Grade 10 level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 9 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check RCM and Conservatory Canada lists.
7. Eligible classes for the Provincial competition are marked with the letter 'P'.

Class 2-08 - Piano Solo - Impressionist

A work (or sections from a grouping) by any one composer allied with the Impressionist School (since 1887) such as Debussy, Delius, Ravel. Time limit 15 mins.
Class 2-09 - Piano Solo - Early 20th Century (1900-1950)
